Amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following 'Operation Sindoor,' launched by Indian defense forces against terror camps in Pakistan, two individuals were arrested in West Bengal's Hooghly district on Saturday evening. The arrests were made in response to anti-India comments posted on social media platforms.
The arrested individuals have been identified by police as Sheikh Shamsher Ali and Sukar Ali Sarkar. Sheikh Shamsher Ali was apprehended in Balagarh, located in the Hooghly district, while Sukar Ali Sarkar was taken into custody in Pandua. The arrests followed a formal complaint lodged by the West Bengal unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The BJP's IT cell reportedly identified the social media posts in question. These posts contained objectionable comments specifically targeting 'Operation Sindoor' and making derogatory remarks against Indian soldiers. The BJP unit deemed these posts to be inflammatory and detrimental to national sentiment, prompting them to file the complaint.
Acting on the complaint, the police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against both Sheikh Shamsher Ali and Sukar Ali Sarkar. Subsequently, law enforcement officers conducted operations at their respective residences, leading to their arrest.
